Prime Minister Mark Carney’s speech to the World Economic Forum, originally received enthusiastically around the world, continues since then to slip down the hill of credibility. While some still sing in praise of Carney’s embrace of a “new world order” that is replacing the globalized adoption of open markets, critics continue to castigate Carney for misrepresenting the old world order under American hegemony as somehow comparable to the Soviet Union’s dictatorial control over much of eastern Europe.
