Government-commissioned modelling of water use by the planned $16.5 billion Pathways CCS project, a linchpin of the energy deal signed by Ottawa and Alberta last month, concluded its use of the regional surplus would be manageable. Experts say the Canadian megaproject could swallow up much of yearly ‘surplus’ in the Cold Lake-Beaver River basin, potentially forcing Calgary to ration supply.
